Most people believe that pandemics are ancient history. But what if you knew that this thought isn’t true at all? Recent history shows that pandemics can happen any time to any number of people in any location. And the reality is that our world is more connected today than ever. We are more susceptible to pandemics now than at any other point in human history.

If you learn a bit about the history of pandemics, you can also learn how to stay safe in the event that a pandemic occurs. Other disasters can happen at any time, too, but pandemics are far more likely to impact a large number of people in our world today. With some simple preparations and guidelines, you can increase your chances of surviving a massive outbreak of some deadly disease.

Its kind of shocking how ill-prepared we are to combat a really nasty one. I mean, there are containment protocols, but with modern air travel...any nasty bug with a decent incubation time, could really spread in no time.

I often think that a zombie apocalypse is actually a pretty real scenario....not the dead walking, but imagine an airborne strain of rabies that is immune to the current treatments....it would really be no different than a worldwide zombie plague (and these would run, not shamble). Though on the plus side, water would be a good deterrent.....

and the mis-use of antibiotics, that will undoubtly cause some shitty things in the near future, know so many people here who got those meds and when they felt better;no need to take 'em anymore,so instead of killing those germs, they simply leave an open window for them to adapt and evolve to a more stronger strain of germs.

if the bees die out humankind follows 4 years later, game over.
Most essential staple food crops like corn, wheat, rice, soybeans and sorghum, don't need bees for pollination. They are mostly wind pollinated.
Life may be much less interesting without bees, but I think we can survive.

Honeybees are not native to North America but 4,000 other species of bees are (such as mason bees, carpenter bees, bumble bees, sweat bees) and most are pollinators. They aren't susceptible to some of the diseases and parasites that kill honeybees. Many are solitary, with every female being fertile and no colonies.

The human race is more fallible than it thinks.....We are not safe by any means. If you stop and look and really think about this there are a lot of things that can take us out....Some in an instant and others over time......We are definitely living in troubled times no doubt...Just today I read where North Korea had finally created a small nuclear war head but they have as yet to figure out how to protect it on re-entry....

Us humans have always lived in uncertain times and this age of man is no different. We will always be destined to what isn't seen!

As long as the population grows and expands over boarders we will continue to be challenged medically. About the best we can do as laymend is follow known protocols in protecting ourselves thus hygiene is first and foremost the rule before during and after a SHTF/TEOTWAWKI

Yes I suppose we all have the "Sword of Damocles" constantly over our heads, but most of us prefer not to look at it. :)

Cicero said: "Does not Dionysius seem to have made it sufficiently clear that there can be nothing happy for the person over whom some fear always looms?"

nuclear war,an epidemic ,a meteor, ALIEN ATTACK,,,,,,something out there has our name on it,,,,,we can not change it some day the world will come to a crashing end and only a small number of us will remain,,,,,,a under ground shelter and a stock pile of food and water, some weapons and ammo,,,and you have a chance to survive,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,not much point in worrying which one it will be,preparing will be about the same for all........................
