With all the politicians is clear, it is unclear why such an attitude on the part of outsiders permits people. Or in DIY stores stopped selling rebar ???

Unforunately and its beyond all debate the fact is the UK police are more concerned about being inclusive and politically correct than they are about protecting society as seen in Rotherham.

I'm seeing too many signs of the same 'politically correct' B.S. over here as well. And it's not a new thing either. I feel like as long as we can keep our govt. from robbing us of our 2nd Amendment rights, we can prevent a lot of that mess. At least, in the part of the country where I live.

For starters...

At this point, John has an 36hr window,

A) Stay put at the airport at a minimum 24hrs but no longer than 36hrs. if John has the leave by foot then he shouldn't leave as a tourist (local/road target by predators)

1) if possible establish communications with the wife, give instruction as the events unfolds to the wife, only use text (not phone calls) text being written instructions for the family (easier for the frantic spouse than relying on memory).

B) Airports have stores, purchase two water bottles or one 36oz (preferably metal) purchase bottled water to fill up the harden bottle(s). In John's small backpack he should only keep what can be utilized out of the backpack for a hostile environment.

2) listen to the news (national and local) get a local and national map, pay attention to the events in and around the airport and city, take notes on the weather forecast 7-day.

C) within 24hrs plot escape routs out of the city, locate truck stops along the routs back home or near home, public and commercial transportation are targets now, don't utilize them, relay this information to the wife and son (text).

3) If john must leave by foot, he should head to the nearest truck stop on his planned rout back home, forage for a plastic tarp, if possible john should take a picture of the truck and license plate with his phone and send it to the wife or son, relay the rout to the wife and son providing John found a ride

Grand Island Regional is a small airport, pretty much about the size of my hometown airport in terms of flights and amenities
Given that, I'm making and educated guess that the airport will close down at some point and not remain open, so staying there for even 24 hrs wont be an option.
John might find out if the airline is making arrangements to charter a bus to get passengers either back home or closer to their destination.
Given the nature of the emergency no charters may be available, but in our area if a flight comes in that was meant to go elsewhere the airline contracts with a local bus company to get passengers to their destination.
I guess a good question would be how did airlines handle the groundings on 9/11 and expect them to follow that course of action unless they've developed alternate plans in the past 15 years.
Getting the family headed closer to him may or may not be an option if the family isn't security minded
There's nothing in the scenario that indicates the attacks are over, and if more attacks happen and the entire family is on the road...well, that could be bad for everyone.

edit:
reading further I see there have been additional attacks, which addresses my point above on that issue
OP I don't see a pass system being implemented within 8 hrs of widespread attacks
Government is not that efficient
One of the problems John should be aware of is having a firearm in a commercial truck can land one in hot water especially in a hyper sense of security/fear.

That's actually a myth.
There is nothing in Federal Motor Carrier Regulations that addresses the issue of firearms on commercial trucks.
State law might, but that would be on a state by state basis

in short,
I would be concerned with being in a major city, John should make contact with his wife's co-worker and see if the family can use the cabin in Frisco, If unable to make contact I would attempt to head to the cabin. Hopefully John has enough wits and gear for a winter stay if need be and that he realizes he is right off a main state artery that at anytime can be restricted.

I dunno. The guy isn't a serious prepper, and the family doesn't have much in the way of anything beyond basic outdoors skills
It's late in the growing year for them to be planting anything and I doubt they're going to cart in a 6 month supply of food for the family
Given that the cabin sounds like a bit of a time share arrangement with the actual owner, it's not a safe plan

I have a question from the scenario. In it the President ordered the inactive to report for duty, ie the retired. So, my fellow preppers and eyes open individuals, if you are retired, like me, would you report in? I already know what I would do.

I've kept my ACUs and even a few pair of old BDUs, not that those will ever see service again
I figure if I was ever recalled to duty the in-processing alone would take a week.
Hurry up and wait would take on a whole new meaning.

He should try calling his wife, either from his cell or, failing that, a land line. It's Monday morning quarterbacking, but it sounds like he isn't much of a leader of his family, and they all hold him and his beginning preparedness in contempt, but he should tell them to stay put unless they are able to get to and from a grocery store easily. If, after spending the night at the airport, no more cities are bombed but the ban on air travel still hasn't been lifted, then something else is up, such as a false flag event to institute martial law and keep the current administration in power. He needs to steal a car and go home to get his family. Then, if things get worse, they can head up to the mountains.

First and foremost, the scenario does not go into great detail about the other events affecting the nation. I left them out, because you can run this scenario out to all types of possibilities and that includes overt malicious hacking into our nations network. Something that has been addressed both in Congressional hearings and has Homeland Security working on this very issue with commercial entities. With the new millennium and how the cyber world is completely taken over the world in just about anything...I certainly could have written from that prospective.

In the short-term, it is hard to say how Homeland Security and the Executive leadership will approach another event like 9-11, as this is the only mark we have on that level. As we have seen only this year, the lone extremist (Orlando) or group of determined extremists (Istanbul, Brussels, and Paris) can do more to influence a nation's response into high gear, than a copy cat of 9-11. Granted, I am sure if the terrorist organizations could again manipulate it, they would, I just think lessons learned and the tireless efforts of agencies around the world, not to mention those who serve now to defend our nation, have thwarted many plans over the years. We (the uninformed will never know, how many events have been adverted because of their efforts.

As for our main character being disengaged by his family. Remember, he was a business person, who had just began to think about prepping. When I wrote this scenario, I wrote it for the new folks who are beginning preparations. This is the ultimate goal of DPF, a community to help other members (many of them who are simply new to the idea). So I don't believe that his families reaction is not out of the ordinary for most American's and for that fact many preppers who are just starting out thinking about it.

Lastly, the decision to break statutes in each perspective state is something that will be required in a desperate situation. No offense, but stealing a car is still just that theft. In this case, had our character done such an action, he would have been arrested, after his checkpoint stops. I wrote the scenario from the situation, that he was a law abiding person, trying to get home with any means possible, short of undertaking these desperate measures.

I agree T.C. the airport at Grand Island is very small, I wrote the scenario based on a similar action mandated in the after-action report made by the Federal Aviation Administration and their decisions to ground all aircraft during 9-11. We had no precedence prior to that event and now our nation has a system in place to deal with this issue the next time, note: I didn't say perfect, but it now has better command and control. See reports I posted. As for a timeline on grounding. I think the FAA did a great job of grounding and then lifting the flight restrictions, once it was established the U.S. was no longer under attack. Using HSPD documents it would be hard to imagine how they would address a future event, but read the plan, it will give you some ideas. My suggestion, is that any prepper who flies for an occupation, should have a limited EDC, minus the banned items. In my case, I typically send them via FEDEX to where I am heading to, pre-arrange with the hotel manager to receive the package. Granted can't pack a fire-arm, but their are items that you can send, a collapsible baton, pepper spray, knife, etc.

Yep, but if all flights were grounded for over 24 hours following a major terrorist attack, I'd commandeer a vehicle if necessary to get to my family and protect them. Better to be judged by twelve...
