A co-worker gave me 2 $50 gift cards to the Field and Stream store so we went last weekend. It's a really nice place, but not somewhere I'd shop if I didn't have "free" money. I bought 2 boxes of shotgun shells (only small game because they didn't have buck shot). We also got a camping mess kit, pocket stove, paracord, water purifying tablets, and a couple of smaller things. I grabbed a few Knorr pasta sides while were were at the store & scored a dozen cans of veggies for .49 each. We still have a looong way to go, but are closer than we were.

I buy alot of Buckshot for my scattergun but the otherday I found left over Turkey loads in 3" Mag on clearance at the local big box and bought six box's . They are hotter than most 00 loads and just as leathal .

My coworkers just give me grief!

buckshot is my favorite, but I would imagine even skeet shot would do alot of damage to an intruder. Walmart has the cheaper 12 ga. shells out on the open shelf now. I'm not sure why all the rest is locked up still.

this week, only little in food,it's been a physical work-out week, fixing my vest with the essential stuff and reorg. BOB

Still tweaking my new air carbine, I have reprofiled the buttstock to a more conventional American style of stock instead of the raised comb English style

Nothing wrong with that. It's been quite awhile now but I made a post once about the importance of fitness in a SHTF event.

I too have merely reorganized, added small food items to the stockpile, and continued to work on my bushcraft skills. Just got a bonus from work that should translate into preps next week though! Can't wait to go shopping.

Actually the big thing I did this week was go out and train some parkour for the first time in 2 years. Man it felt good. Of course now I'm so sore I can hardly move but that's beside the point. It was like that when I first started and the next-day soreness, same with gym workouts, becomes very manageable after a few sessions.

Took 4h today to clean my shotgun. I was able to get that aweful paint job off and threw both stocks on. The green one goes with the slug barrel and the wooden one goes with the bird barrel.
I went small game hunting this morning for an hour on our property and ended up with two fat squirrels. Going back tomorrow to get a few more and fire up the grill.

Got word from the finance company that everything looks good on closing on my 25 acres soon. Recap - about a month ago put an offer on 25 acres.... has a small hunter's cabin on it (2 years old). Has electrical that hooks up to generator; 150 lb propane tank hooked up to internal heating source. The property has several deer stands, and a sweet old bus turned into deer blind. Can't wait to camo paint it. Right now you can see it from an aerial view. The property has an old well (that will be tested), bluffs on one side, 85% timber, comes with a tractor and brush hog for the two grassy areas in the interior of the property. There's a creek that runs along one side and what appears to be a nature spring in the middle of the property. Very excited to start planning prepping the property for our bug out location. First order of business is to build an outhouse... lol

Marv, that looks amazing..what does that squirrel taste like? never tried it, Eyce88,congrats on that property, you lucky one, both of you :)

Been quite a good week. Joined the REI co-op which should help me get more hear at better prices. While I was at the store I snagged an item I've been pining over for a while, the Katadyne Hiker water filter system. That and two Lifestraws means my Bug-Out water needs are pretty much set. Could even purify water for bug-in if needed but seems less likely. Also scored some more bugout food: dehydrated meals, energy chews, and these really cool little Mylar pouches of a honey and peanut butter blend. Can't wait to try one of those! I imagine you just squeeze it straight out of the package and into your mouth. Got a tick key, as there are rampant deer in my neighborhood, much less the wilderness around my town. Biggest thing was I got a new bugout bag: the Sandpiper of California 3-Day Pass in ABU camo. Got a matching molle pouch that I've set up as a first-aid kit and mounted on the back of the bag for easy access. I put all my stuff from my old bag in it and found that I still had one compartment that I hadn't even opened yet! More importantly, it's WAY more comfortable so far. I plan on test hiking with it today but I did a four-block loop last night and it was very nice on the shoulders and neck, unlike the 5.11 3 day bag that I have. The straps on the 5.11 don't tighten enough on me, particularly the sternum strap. I guess I'm a skinny fellow? Anyways, my only complaint about the SOC bag is that the waist belt sits a little high. I know I'm not exceptionally tall, (right under 5 ft 11 inch) so there's got to be a way to adjust it so it sits right. This is a fairly common problem with me and bags, actually. The straps either don't tighten enough, or they sit in the wrong location. Hopefully this one does well on the test-hike, though.

got to day 1 bag of soy-granules,as substitute for meat, very light weight indeed only 500g,that goes in my BOB,high in protein and you can mix it with what you have in food with you,as it's dry stuff, shelf life is excellent.
tomorrow it will be more rice, beans, nuts and pasta

today is a good day..6 more 1-gallon jugs of water..spring water this time..lol...4-AAA rechargeable batteries at walmart..and a larger tool box for the van..and a pair of winter gloves. at harbor freight..

those buckets work like a charm, transferred a lot of rice, pasta and oatmeal into them..yup,did label them.

I bought my first pressure canner at Walmart today along with 2 dozen jars.
I wish I could tell you canning was economical, but you can buy canned stuff way cheaper. Now the upside is you get better tasting stuff, that you know is healthier, and it's honestly one of the most satisfying things I've ever done. I still have a little more store bought cans than stuff I've canned in the pantry, but I'll eventually replace 90% of the root cellar with my own stuff. One of the things I got was a paper bound copy of the ball canning guide. It has all he info you need to get started, and will work when the power is out. I've since gotten a few other books, but that one pretty much has everything you'll need.

this week,I'll have to add to my preps what we had in school on friday;learning the art of injections, yup we tried on each other :)
