Hey guys, over at PLU I published my research regarding the topic...

Medical Preparedness is a very touchy subject, because of this, I must inform you that this information is not tested, proven, or by any means recommended by medical professionals. I must also inform you that I am not writing this article as a medical professional, but as an informed citizen who has done plenty of research into various modes of prepping.

Now that you’ve read and agree to the disclaimer above, we can delve into things.

When building a medical kit, it definitely is not a bad idea to include antibiotics. In fact, it’s unwise to exclude them from your kit! In a post-SHTF or apocalyptic grid-down scenario (however you wish to call it), antibiotics will be in high demand.

Being that in this type of scenario your everyday average Joe will be performing tasks that they usually would not be doing (chopping firewood, skinning/gutting animals, and being in just plain dirty environments), incidence of injury is going to go through the roof. This means dirty wounds leading to infections of all sorts. Women will also be at increased risk of obtaining UTI’s (Urinary Tract Infections) simply due to the fact that toilet paper may not be available (I probably don’t have to explain what happens here).

In this type of TEOTWAKI scenario, antibiotics will be the difference between life and death for some people. I can not stress enough how valuable antibiotics will be in the event some apocalyptic-style event occurred.

How do you guys feel about fish antibiotics in a post-SHTF scenario? I'd like to hear your thoughts.

hey,in a post-SHTF scenario I would probably use whatever there is. I try to prep as much as I can,but getting prescription medicine here is difficult,so all options are kept open

Most are pretty much the same for humans too...though I would strongly advise getting the opinion and weigh in on each by either/or a trusted vet or a doc, pharmacist, etc.

Fish and birds have a more delicate internal system than we. The standards for their antibiotics are actually equal to if not even greater than human grade.

I use and stock fish antibiotics for us and the dogs 250mg and 500mg, though should be the last resort if nothing else works. Humans have been over exposed to antibiotics so the less we use the better.

@NCHydrangea if you can avoid taking antibiotics don't take them the same be true for prescribed, like all antibiotics they are the very last line of defense or should be!

I totally agree that people take too many meds. I'm lucky that I have a doctor who doesn't placate me by prescribing me drugs whenever I feel sick. She's very quick to tell me that I have "the funk" & I just need to rest.

Right?! I'm finding it a little hard to swallow that people can now walk into a store and purchase marijuana (as easily as one can buy a six-pack of beer in some places), yet if I want to purchase a modest supply of antibiotics such as ciprofloxacin or amoxicillin, I get treated like I’m the ‘drug-seeking’ one, and I get lectured about how antibiotics abuse leads to drug resistant bacteria strains. If I'm not informed enough to make wise decisions about antibiotics use, how am I to be trusted to make decisions about whether or not it’s okay to walk around stoned all day? I am not anti-pot (well, yes, I am: for me. But we're all adults here, etc, etc), nor am I "pro" antibiotics abuse (I totally agree that as a culture, we take too many meds), but all this new pot legislation has me feeling like I'm taking crazy pills. I am seriously considering just buying online (if I can find a reputable source).

the only problem in my view getting meds on-line is,you can never be 100% sure you get what you buy, strength can vary, other ingredients in the pill can be something that causes problems, but as sensible preppers we all know ( truly believe) not to take them for candy and use them wrongly and just for fun.
and thus going towards a point where they don't affect at all...and we find out we are standing in a big pile of doo-doo

Antibiotics have been over prescribed and over used to a point of becoming a problem, as I mentioned above, it should be the last resort when all normal remedies have failed, marijuana does have it uses unfortunately cannabis got a bad rap not for what it is but for the reason of its use and that be recreational, cannabis helps with a lot of ailments and safer then most of the pain killers unfortunately again, it just can't get past the recreational stigma.

All options must be open in a post-shtf and the reason why we shouldn't shelve them to the junk pile nor condemn any options in a pre-shtf. Knowledge is key to survival a closed mind is death!

i have stockpiled (and tested) meds from a number of online sources (mostly in India, but some owned and operated by Americans so that was a plus). Do your own research as there are about 10,000 shops out there, but my favorites, tried and tested (in terms of service and product) are: bmpharmacy, jcmrx, 4rx, and xlpharmacy. Won't post the links here, you can probably Gahoo or Yoogle them. :)

had a dream last night that was defending the homestead and was down to a bolt action .22 (model unspecified as it was an effed up dream where some of my rounds had pebbles and screws sitting on top of the casings). the bad guys were all attractive-esque college aged women trying to get at my shipping container of supplies. Woke up before anything climactic happened but I did have to shoot many of them.

bruceb, those pharmacies you listed are questionable with some of them being blocked due to the danger, you might want to recheck who you get your meds from with the links I posted above, safety is paramount!

Before using any antibiotics, especially in a shtf situation, do your research. Always remember to use the complete prescription, or the sickness can Get worse. I'm not against stockpiling antibiotics at all, just research first. That's the key.
