I always thought the cord wraped handle second from front would make a good hideaway knife , Iv seen them called CS perfect balance throwers or project knives . The big Bowie looks simalar to the CS Bowie I bought . I intend for my next to be a OSS Bowie .

We drew names at work for Christmass and I got the new guy , young and kind of a clown . I couldn't come up with any idea so I finaly thought a good knife . So I looked at a online seller I bought from before and ordered him a CS GI Tanto . They had them $25 and free shipping so I thought I'll just get 2 . I'll give 1 to my son as a extra gift .

The GI Tanto is a great knife for the price. With some small mods they are amazing. We usually grind down the back hand guard because it keeps you from chocking up on the knife. I also mod the sheath it comes with to fit the new mods.

did you just grind the sheet to that form?

thanks Brother! have something to do when on x-mas break from school :)
something to keep my neighbors happy ;)

Got the GI Tanto's in nice knives for the $ you cant beat them . Always remember when you are putting a knife on a buffing wheeel the wheel can take it away from you and throw it back at you . That is the big buffing wheels we used in a gun shop I use to work at .

no worries, good that we get tips and warnings here...it would feel pretty painful having a blade in your shoulder for just buffing it...and looks you get in the ER room....you did what to get that blade there??

As I mentioned we drew names at work so the one that got my name sent someone to hint at what I would want , I said Ammo so thats what I got . Idid a follow up order for another one of these knives and its going to one of my Brother in Laws .
As for the buffing wheels I saw a guy that use to come into the shop I worked at couple decades ago and he pulled out his old Case Trapper wanting to polish it and next thing we knew he was bent over holding his side bleeding every where . After it healed he had a scar that looks like he had a C sicsion .

Back then we got him to the Hospital , He filed it on his insurance and paid his deductible he was old friends with the shop owner . Now days the insurance company and medical providers would have got their lawyers involved and the bill would have been so high the dude that had the accident would have had to sue the shop owner and we could have all been out of a place to work . Years later that happend anyway from bad Banking and Iv been working for a huge Corp ever since not doing work I enjoy like that little gun shop was but making alot more $$ . One of my retiremant ideas in a few years is to open a gun shop kind of like we had then .

I just got my first fixed blade knife today. A sog seal pup elite with a military camo style. A nice knife, came really sharp. I haven't gotten a chance to try it out on anything but one thing I found was the sheath that it came with is a bit tough (not sure is that is the best word though). I found that the it was a bit stiff to put it back into the factor sheath but all in all a really nice knife.

started the mod on my GI-tanto sheet, not quite ready yet,but a heck of lot easier to draw it out already..try to follow what you've done Ronin

Ronin, have just an ordinary table grinder, not the belt one, when I start to mod the blade and take that handguard away, how careful of the heat? don't wanna ruin the blade...know a belt grinder would be better, but have to make do with what I have

The ole Gentleman that taught me how to Gun Smith always said when using a grinding wheel ." Take a little at a time just like a cat eating a grind stone " .

this one thanks, there are things I can do,but not nessecarily always the right way ;)
