Yeah but after that year, your basically up the creek without a paddle. Especially if you have a gas generator.

true! but our preps are should be based on two categories short term and long term needs and some folks need to ease into long term situation thus in that respect having 6 months or even a year worth of fuel may be beneficial to the psych for some.

Propane is many thousands of years old allready, so it dosent go bad.

The only problem with propane I have had, our generators get less run time hours per tank, (propane, gas, diesel) in that order is the run time I have experienced per gal diesel being the best, I switched both my gas generators to propane given I can store large amounts of propane without worrying of it going bad, my diesel generator I don't worry about it that much given my diesel fuel is constantly being used rotated amongst the trucks ;)

I plan on us getting 2 more 100 pound tanks for propane this year where I cook on the gas stove all the time. Then having the big tank for back up that is 150 gallons. I would love to get me a few propane heaters that I can put on the wall that don't take electric. We had one in Maine and it heated the house really good in the fall and spring however in the winter we had to have wood to help it.

My main goal next year is to finish the smokehouse. We already have the 'house" part. Went to the scrape yard to look for an item and ran a crossed it. Not sure what it was originally used for but had to take out an electrical box and conduit, but it is insulated. Just need to make the firebox and run the piping.

Never posted this but for years I have always wanted a nice wall in pantry. I finally got one this year and built my shelving for it. Hunny even bought me one of those fancy rolling commercial shelving for it. (Yes it was one of those squealing moments) I have quite a bit of my canned goods and back ups stored in there now.

Another downside to propane is it dosent have the same amount of power as diesel or gas. I guess that affects the run time too. I was warned by an experienced mechanic that my 10kw will only produce a little over 8kw on propane. I am still going to switch due to the storage issue, but that's a large drop in efficiency. One plus is the oil dosent get fouled up as much and can be changed less often.

One space heater is on my list as well. I want the generator, an outdoor kitchen, and an auxiliary heater hooked up to it. I wish I was more mechanically inclined, as converting my car over to it would be great too. I have considered buying 5 of the 100 gal tanks vs renting one 500gal. I posted earlier I found a company that gives you the tank free the first year, then is 40.00 a year rental. That's a great deal, but then your forced to buy from them and I didn't check how his price compared for fuel.

That's a good point about it being a short term item. If you have power long after everyone else has run out, someone with a bigger gun is just going to come and take it. It would be nice to have it as we all relearned to adjust to a different lifestyle. I don't think having too many luxuriories for all to see would be wise in a shtf situation.

Luckily we had a man give us the 150 gallon tank that we now have. We went over to the gas place and they quoted me $1750 for a 200 gallon tank and that was full. Money I did not have, then hubby had a friend do a porch and they had a free propane tank and they gave it to us. We were happy. It's older but no leaks in it. Saved me close to $1000. But I still like having my 100 pound tanks for back up.

I love the Mr. Heater Portable Buddy propane heaters. They are safe indoors and very portable. We started using them at deer camp instead of kerosene heaters, which I never liked. I have even carried one to the deer stand.

These work great, I have four, two at the BOL and two at the home. The home site has two of the smaller ones that heat up about 200 square feet and I have two up at the BOL site that augment the wood stove. They work great and I've got the adapter that hooks to a larger propane tank, but have used also the Coleman canisters.

That looks nice. I almost caved this year and got me a small gas fireplace, but I figured instead I would wait an extra year. Who knows maybe I can get hubby to finish my back porch then I can put a wood stove out there. Propane heaters to me really can heat the house fast, However I like wood because you can find wood any old place in the woods lol.

I still remember the smell of those black kerosene heaters from my childhood! Yuk. I actually have a new one in the laundry room for emergency, but have never fired it up.

I bet with a regular propane tank it would be great.

Our home in Texas is gas Brent, but here is the problem, we have a automatic pilot light for our furnace, meaning when the electricity goes out, for some reason the pilot light goes out too...I think it has to do with the computer system to our heating system...so when we lost power two years ago, I had the sense to buy two of the Mr. Heaters. Lowes and Home Depot both carry them, but I think I bought the adaptor for the LP gas tank at Lowes. They sold in near the mower and weedeater section.

Now my wife will not go without them, so when I got the chance and they go on sale, I pick up one and get the adaptor. Just have to make sure to keep some full LP tanks available in the barn or garage. Unless you have the know-how to run a hose from the larger LP tanks and make the adaptor work, these heaters work great. House was very comfy the entire day.

Since I got all the gear I want for my GHB/BOB now. My next prepping goal is a supplies stock or at least two storage boxes filled with needed gear.
