I have concerns as well as most do, I look forward to improving my lifestyle and prep accordingly to as many downfalls as possible. I am open to any and all advice. I am in California, 21 years old and my big goal at the moment is to save up and find a home somewhere safe. Although I do enjoy all four seasons of the year. Was thinking about Big Bear, ca. But if need be, I'm willing to travel out of state to find my safe sanctuary.

Hi and welcome from Finland to DPF,hope you enjoy it here :)

Welcome!

Some general advice on location:

Get a place that has a well for water, and septic for sewage.

Should be a rural location, though just how far out is up to you. At least be far from any major population centers, though near a small town is good for convenience.

Should be good soil for growing things. (and available land to do so)

You mentioned 4 seasons, but a cold winter will be tough to survive post SHTF. So keep it in mind. A fireplace in the home will help (or multiple ones). But, any livestock must be kept warm too, plus you likely won't be growing much (outdoors) in winter.

Should look at a map of active nuclear plants, and be at least 50-100 miles (100 miles is better) or more away from them. Come SHTF, being close to these could be a very bad idea.

Ideally, should be wild game, fish, etc. nearby.

Learn the old ways...the ways our ancestors cured, preserved food, meats, etc. Doesn't mean you have to live off the grid or anything, but having the knowledge as a hobby will help.

Easy to keep animals: chickens, rabbits, goats.

Be armed, have ammo.

Groups do better than a lone survivor.

Welcome , Rural / simi rural parts of CA should be great for prepping great growing season . I understand the cost of living in CA can be a bit steep and you do have that Earth quake thing going on .

Welcome from Europe ^^

I don't know what you do for a living, but if you're still considering your options regarding that, jobs that allow one to do freelance work from home and accept jobs internationally really help when you go rural ^^!

Every Prepper's situation is unique. Browse what others have to say and then pick what you need for your needs. Check out different prepper sites. "International Prepper's network" is a good one. You would be amazed at the intelligence and ingenuity of the people on these sites. Good luck.
