True, arming up in England is only slightly harder than in NYC, lol. I'm in the south US, so it's pretty much a given here.

finding a private owner with one for sale is another thing in this country. and buying ammo still needs a gun certificate .

Free availability of ammunition is far from assured here in the US. We've had shortages of many calibers ever since Obama was re-elected. We expect the Obama administration to try some backdoor gun control schemes like ammunition registration. Many US shooters are getting into reloading as a means to insure that we have ammunition. I am set up for reloading every centerfire rifle and pistol caliber I shoot, and have been for years. When the ammunition disappeared from the shelves last year I was mostly unaffected.

I see that Midway has a UK Site:
http://www.midwayuk.com/
So reloading must be legal, but I don't see powder and primers listed.

The main problem with registering a gun (depending on the disaster i.e. break down of rule of law) those preppers with guns are going to be sitting on a list of high priority targets (I would assume as thats who i would go after if i was in there shoes).

The laws in the Uk make it pretty much impossible to carry any useful knife (yet carry a 12 inch screwdriver is perfectly legal). Then there is the even more broad stretching "offensive" weapons laws which essentially mean that if any item is deemed by the police as offensive (whether it be a walking stick, essentially anything) it can land you in trouble... so this makes defence EDC pretty much impossible.

Luckily, we don't have to register them here. And, if you buy them from a private owner, no paper trail. You simply have them.

a gun license is roughly £500 plus u need a secure vault. but when the shtf raid farms they all have guns and i know from personal knowledge not all are locked away. pistols used for killing animals are legel not v good range but close up can cause serious damage . im just going to invest in some good quality knives and a cross bow but thats just me.

Very easy, all you need is money or a mortgage, there are plenty for sale especially the smaller ones on higher ground ( trad hill sheep farmers) Location decides price the nearer the rich south east the more expensive it gets. Move to parts of Wales, the North or Scotland and land is fairly affordable.

If you have land be it forest or farm its fairly easy to get a gun licence for a Shotgun or 22 for vermin control, if you have deer you can expect no reasonable issues in getting hunting calibres.

Our laws though stupidly applied are primarily aimed at stopping youngsters in cities from carrying big bloody knives, once you get out to the rural areas common sense usually applies
EG the three lads along the road from me who love river fishing inevitably have 6 inch blades on their belts when they set of for the Fishing lake. As for gun ownership there is a clay pigeon club bout half a mile from me and they shoot 6 days a week from 9 til 8 and there is a waiting list for membership.

As for constraints on ammo in the UK, shall we say reloading is very popular and leave it at that :)

As for knife carry , common sense rules again, if I have to go into the city I wear a Byrd Tern UK legal 3 inch none locking folder, but even so I would not go into a school or pub with it on show. Back home in the boonies I wear a 3 1/2 inch blade Tec Hunter Light lock knife or my Cold Steel Voyager Tanto and I have worn a blade EDC along with multi tool and flashlight for decades.

Recently on a dark and very rainy evening we came across a police car at the side of the road, the officers were trying to free a foal that was totally tangled up with nylon twine stuck in a hedge. We stopped and the cops asked if anyone had a knife or something to cut the twine and fencing away. All three of us produced pocket knives and multi tools and helped free the critter. The local cops simply did not care nor had any interest in us carrying blades.

If we had produced those same tools in central London or Times Sq NYC we would have been arrested. If we had pulled them in Tottenham or Detroit we may have got tazored ( or shot)

The biggest losers in our British society due to the knee jerk, fear driven anti knife and gun bans are those very same City Centre liberal, left wing do gooders who demanded the ban in the first place. The criminals love to rob and burglarise the wealthy middle class idiots who flaunt their wealth and social status then wonder why they get mugged, robbed, happy slapped, steamed etc.

There again I am like Big Paul in being completely baffled as to why any sane person would choose to live in a British left wing socialist, multi cultural, diverse, inclusive paradise that is a British city in 2014. As soon as we started a family we made huge personal sacrifices career, money and family wise but we put as much distance between us and the city as we could as soon as the kids came along.

I was brought up in a city and lived and worked there for 43 years, but I always wanted to get out-must be the country boy in me!! I got out 15 years ago purely by accident, I married a country girl who didn't live "living in a city"(we were in the suburbs and were much closer to the Cornish border(the next county) than we were to the city centre,) anyway we got out and 5 years ago we moved to our present location on the edge of a small rural market town with a very small population.

famrs can work for you without the hard work. i no the government pay you for leaving the land to go natural

Farmer here can be paid for letting the land go natural too. It's called the Conservation Reserve Program (CRP).

From:
http://www.fsa.usda.gov/FSA/webapp?area=home&subject=copr&topic=crp

"The Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) is a land conservation program administered by theFarm Service Agency (FSA). In exchange for a yearly rental payment, farmers enrolled in the program agree to remove environmentally sensitive land from agricultural production and plant species that will improve environmental health and quality. Contracts for land enrolled in CRP are 10-15 years in length. The long-term goal of the program is to re-establish valuable land cover to help improve water quality, prevent soil erosion, and reduce loss of wildlife habitat."

We have close to 100 acres in CRP.

There is also EU Farming subsidies to encourage farms to lay aside land for wildlife habitation, parts of the EU / UK are trying to protect critters like badgers, wolves, beaver, otter, butterflies, certain flora and fauna.

And our American friends thought they had it bad with their gun laws, we can't even carry a damn twig without good reason.

Is the UK full of friggin pussies?
I just went over to a UK Prepping forum and saw this post...

I thought, WHAT! are they serious! When the SHTF there will be NO law.
They are even stopping us from DISCUSSING weapons.
If that's the case then I don't think I'll be visiting that particular site any more!

When you outlaw guns....only outlaws have them.....
