the milk powder reminds me.i need to get a few thing's of self stable milk.
I have a few bags of it but have never tried it yet. Seems kind of gross honestly. I take that back, I used it as coffee creamer once and it was ok. I mostly got it for cooking if I was in a pinch. I would imagine if you chilled it and used Hershey syrup in it it might be ok to drink.....

I have decide not to get rid of my 243,it's a Remington 700 ADL one of the old ones that were well made ,I love the 700's but don't like the 243,,,,it is a step above the 223 has better range and more knock down power,,,,I ordered 80 more rounds of ammo for it yesterday,,,,

I can't stand powdered milk,,,,,but the canned milk is a different story ,I add to my stock almost every time I hit the store

I was being terribly sarcastic and self pitying when making the last thread content...didn't mean to make a scene. just wanted to show you how pitifully I am armed when it comes to things that go bang...GP
thanks for the info anyway, was fun to watch
things that go bang are not the only way to be armed,,,,,,the AXE,,,,Knife ,,,SWORD,,,Tomahawk,,,Baseball bat,,,or be like BUFFORD PUSSER,,,GET A BIG STICK,,,,,,yeah he was a real person

I would use it for cooking recipes as in cakes, pies, but I also know you are not much of a baker so cream gravies maybe. I use canned milk for those kind of items.

Im not a fan of powdered milk either, but used in baked goods you will not be able to tell the difference. My mom used to use powdered milk when she made mashed potatoes, with her store bought potato flakes and margarine. As a kid I never knew what real mashed potatoes tasted like. Now I that I know, I will always make real mashed potatoes, with real butter.

I also like the 243. My Safe Queen is a 243, Sako, built in 1958. It shoots great but getting parts in almost impossible and is very expensive if you can find them. I do keep one box of ammo for it, just for emergency, emergencies, last resort kind of thing. I know some hog hunters have switched from the 7.62 x 39 to the 243. I can only assume the much higher velocities of the 243, provides better terminal energy. Just guessing here.

243 would not be my first choice for hog,,,I like a larger heavier round for hog,,,

most of my hog hunting the shots do not exceed 50 yards I use a 300 Blackout with 150gr soft points

Mr. Murphy is still playing games. I got my order of 9 mm brass but the bullets did not show up. Contacted supplier and was told the bullets are on back order and it will be a WHILE before they ship. I don't have a clue what time frame a "WHILE" constitutes. So I have shifted gears into very slow motions on prepping the brass. Currently I am now waiting for the Balance Beam Scale and now the bullets. Once these items arrive, I can reload the 9 mm. I will still hold off on reloading the 6.5 Creedmoor, until I can get to a shooting range and chronograph the loads. The Creedmoor ammo too darn expensive to just be punching holes in paper. I want to develop a superior long range round. Something that can reach out and touch something long distance, as MA Bell used to say.

I have to agree, the 243 would not be my hog hunting go to round. I would want a 308 or a minimum my 6.5 Creedmoor shooting the 156 grain soft points. I a still vacillating between a 308 AR10 or going with a 6.5 Creedmoor AR10. The 308 has better bullet selection but I already have the 6.5 and all the reloading dies. This choice does fall into prepping vs. being cheap. From a prepping stand point, better to have more caliber selections but that also costs more. More dies, more bullets, more brass and more ammo storage containers, etc.. So many "I wants and so few I got's" the money. LOL

We have a pretty good size wild hog population locally here. I’ve never hunted one before but would consider it. There’s a decent amount of meat on them. I was just about to ask what you two thought of the 308 being used for them and you answered it before I got a chance. My next question is how do you get the dead animal out of the woods....

We get many by them just being hit off the roads. . . yes we literally eat road kill. If a friend hits one, they will call and let us know and then go to collect.

I was on a business trip in South Texas, and the business owner also owned a 10,000 acre game ranch with deer, feral hogs, Russian boar, and exotic antelope.
He took me hog hunting and we talked about hog guns. His philosophy was accurate high velocity small bore and shoot them in the head or neck and let the hydrostatic shock disrupt the nervous system. The game ranch had a checkerboard of long straight senderos with shooting boxes in the intersections, so long shots were the norm.
His hog gun was a 220 Swift. He probably would think a 243 was a good hog gun.

I have hunted ground hogs ( small game varmint critter) with 22-250 and loved that cartridge. My hunting partner was using a 220 swift and it never failed to do it's job BUT I don't think I would want to use either caliber on feral hogs. Just call me a pansy. If it is a long range shot, then I am going with the 6.5 Creedmoor. If it is more brush country, I am going with the 308. I would go with the 300 Win Mag but an AR10 in 300 Win Mag starts out about $4,000. Just a little bit out of my budget.

Knives and swords are great. I also like my crossbow.
