This is a continuation of another thread. I made a new one because I want it to be more generalized, to any kind of underground structure. I have a simple drawing that I would like you to critique The key to the drawing: the red squares are earth bags. The yellow block is a layer of soil cement (maybe 6" thick?), brown is the soil, blue is flanged corrugated culvert, orange is foundation for the earthbags and floor (if needed) and the white is the empty space of the hallway/building. The hope: earth bags are 5' tall, the culvert will be 6' wide, so will give an extra 3' of height; there will be 1-2 feet of soil on top of the culvert (on top of the highest point, then the 6" or so layer of soil cement, then 3-4 feet of soil on top of that. The hope is that by combining the culvert, soil, soil cement and then more soil, the result will be as though no disturbance was made to the soil - can walk on it, drive no it, etc. I am looking for input on this . I will meet with an engineer in a few weeks to get an assessment of strength. Cost of materials should be low, with the exception of the culvert. At this point it is an unknown.
