Free? There's no such thing as free. You pay for the dump out of your property taxes.

I pay taxes and a fee each time we go to the dump. The last trip was 21.00

Yesterday my Sweet Pea came for a visit while Mom & Dad helped with in laws bathroom remodel. We started our day out in the garden picking some green beans, dill & cucumbers. I told her the cucumbers and green beans were hiding from us & it was our job to go and find them. I didn't mind that she wanted to pick all of what she found no matter what size it was. Figured that's another lesson as she gets older.
Of course we did have to go see all the critters and she even helped bottle feed a couple baby goats, but then Bobby, my billy saw the milk and latched on. That was a little struggle getting him to let go of that nipple but she didn't let go of that bottle.
Did come inside to can up some oven dill pickles. She is a little measuring fool & loved the scrub, scrub, scrubbing of jars! Yes, it was kind of a game. She held the measuring spoons & cups while I put in the ingredients, then she would dump in each jar. At only 2 1/2 I didn't want to do too many and lose her attention, so we only did 12 pints but she love it. Great way to introduce little ones to the canning process since nothing is hot until it comes out of the oven. Then we cracked a bunch of eggs to run thru the blender for the dehydrator. She doesn't like to hit the eggs to crack open yet, but she likes to do the cracking out and pushing buttons.
Its these types of things we need to teach our next generations while they are still young. Introduce them at least because if we don't they will probably not even know a certain skill is possible to learn. . . And just rely on the stores like so many other. So far she enjoys our lifestyle and I honestly hope that continues as she gets older. It should be lots of fun when the other two girls start running around here too.

got a letter today from the army, they must have a need for a new "old grumpy sergeant" or I have done something of a good work in all trainings as I'm
to be promoted from corporal to sergeant in my unit.

I say that, because if you wanted the added responsibility and presumably increased skill requirement, then congratulations.

I’ve always believed putting in hard work and dedication pays off and am sure you deserved this. Congrats!

The Wife's Midwifery paid off. She did a homebirth for a couple who are partners on a small "organic" cattle farm. So after the Airstream is bought, and the Ranchero has a few fixes that need done, I can buy a ton of grass fed no hormone local beef for half off. They gave her some stuff for free, and it was delicious. The burger is super nice. So I better stock up while I can.

Excellent! We buy beef and pork from a local who does the same. Very lean beef (and pork, oh, and chicken). Good stuff!

SGS,the new stripe comes with new responsabilities,which I welcome and if I can pass on something for the new guys/gals,then my job is done.

We got the stem walls poured on the new shop last week. Next week they'll pour the floor if the weather drys out some. Then the framing will begin.
Got the perimeter fence repairs about half completed. I borrowed a rock drill and drilled a lot of holes in solid rock in order to replace some rock cribs with steel posts. Still have a couple miles of fence left to go.

I bought some cattle and pigs today. The cattle were black Angus; breed cow, heifers and a steer calf. The cattle will be delivered next Thursday. The pigs I brought home with me today. It'll take a few days for the pigs to get used to the chilly nights up here. Plus they're away from the sow for the first time. I can almost taste the bacon now.

I got the new Heatpump delivered yesterday! It’s sitting on a trailer at the moment and will get added to my to do list now for swapping out my 11 yr old unit. Hopefully the jump from 10seer to 16 will make some difference in my power bill. If we ever have a slow day with work again we will swap it out. Having been able to shop around for a good price and comfortably wait for delivery probably saved a lot of money from having to have an AC company sell and install one one the spot and is kind of what prepping is all about.
