Obviously none of us want it to happen, but how many of you are legitimately frightened of it? Are you calm and collected knowing you would handle yourself well, or do you think it would be terrifying even with your preparation?

Personally, what scares me is the possibility of being alone. Like if I had people and we were working together to survive, I wouldn't be as scared.

Tough question. Afraid? I think the fear would hit sort of "in the moment". I'm not afraid of dogs, until one is biting me, then I am terrified.

A real, hardcore crisis, be it a financial crisis or a natural disaster or whatever, would be awful. Lives would be ruined. Good people who worked hard all their lives would see their dreams shattered. The very old, and very young, would suffer greatly, especially in our current cultural situation. I would say I dread that, more than fear it.

But yeah, lights go out, woods are on fire, cars are crashing... Am I scared? You betcha.

Hell yeah I would be scared.

But the best way to feel comfortable about it is to prepare. Those situations would be a hell of a lot less painful to face with the right preparation. You new to prepping, Tanto?

yes, but I've been saving vegetables here and there all my life just in case the crop goes bad.

scared? me? you gotta be joking!
it'll reduced the population by a large % in a fairly quick time frame, especially those that cant possible manage without modern facilities and modern technology, they will go the way of the do-do and the dinosaur.
back to a more basic and simple lifestyle which cant be bad.
i'm a neo-luddite anyway . and being alone is my natural state.

Sad more than scared. We have the potential to go so far as a species, but I am certain we will have another dark ages again. There will be a collapse, then wars for the remaining resources will cause more or a collapse. Eventually there will be small groups around and warlords going around stealing their resources. Just like old times, people don’t seem to learn. If you want an idea of what things are likely to be just study history. Human nature hasn’t changed much in the last two thousand years.

Great post, Brent. It is cool to think about just how far we may go as a species. What we can accomplish, like exploring mars and beyond. But it seems jealousy and greed will always be there to keep humans fighting with each other, and this is a gigantic barrier to us reaching our full potential as a species.

I don't want to see anything bad happen to anyone but SHTF somewhere everyday . SHTF does not scare Me , GOD has exposed Me to alot and prepared Me for bad times . Bring it .

hell most anyone can survive a week or so without power and limited food,,,,but really how many are ready for a lifetime of hardship,,,,,no power or no food on the shelf at the local market, and no gas for the car,,,,1 out of a 1000 it is probably less than that,,,,,,,,,,,there are going to be a lot of hungry scared people out there,,,,maybe a few of us also

I will be ok I have ammo and fields and woods and 2 nearby rivers to provide me food,,I already heat with wood,,,,some solar power would be nice but I have not been able to address that need so far,,,,I would just have to make do with what I have

Scared? I guess I was, which prompted me to prepare for it. I have contingency plans for everything up to and including a total TEOTWAWKI. And I suppose the adventurous side of me itches to be able to put them into action. I won't be alone, I have relatives that I will be with at the BOL who have all sorts of useful skills (farming, carpentry, medicine, dentistry, etc.) And every single one of them, male and female alike, can shoot. There is unlimited free water (free flowing artesian well), some of the richest soil on earth, long growing season, etc. etc. etc. The BOL is owned by a family LLC. I'm president.

But as Prussian Field Marshal Helmuth von Moltke famously said (paraphrased): "No battle plan ever survives contact with the enemy." And I guess if anything really scares me, it would be that.

Along the same line as the old Yiddish adage “Mann Tracht, Un Gott Lacht” ("Me plans, and God laughs.")

Sad, fear for other family that haven't really prepped, my kids and grandkids are here on the property so that is a blessing but I still fear for them such as sickness, injuries everyday but magnified in a SHTF/TEOTWAWKI. To answer the OP, yes I would be scared, not for myself but my family.

I am pretty used to being alone,it's just me and the dogs here, what worries me is not being completely ready,,,I think most of us are not as ready as we think we are
The problem with getting ready is what are you getting ready for. We may think what the world around us would be like after shtf, but the reality may be very different. At least most here actually think and try to cover some of the possible scenarios. I feel for all the people that just think everything will always be just as they are. I know one thing in life for certain, things can and do change.

I think Psalm nailed it. God has a plan, I trust Him much more than any lame plans laid out by Man.

So scared? Not really. I know who wins in the end. I know one day I will die, in peace or in war. But dead is still dead in body and the soul will then go on. Maybe unhappy would be a better word?

Of course I can also say I'd look at the cup-half-full side. No more taxes to pay. No more bellyaching about my taxes paying for welfare recipients to sit on their butts. No more traffic issues. No lines at the stores. No more high property taxes. I'll never need to fill out another 1040 or 1099 tax forms. Ministry efforts will yield much greater harvests!

And: no more "on hold" music!

Adapt or die!!!:D

Concerned yes, scared no. There's a good chance that none of us will live long enough to see a wide spread SHTF. That doesn't mean that we shouldn't prepare for one though.
In our situation I should have the majority of our major preps completed this year. That includes finish planting the orchard, the garden, building a green house, build a new house and shop, finish installing the solar panels, build a new hay barn and tear down the old barn.
I'm concerned about family as we're spread out over 3 states. My son lives in the mountains about 8 hours north of me and is pretty self sufficient. My sister and bil live about 8 hours west. They own a very fertile farm on a large river and raise grains and several thousand head of sheep and some cattle. They should be fine too. I just wish that we all lived closer together. That's not possible though as we all have so much invested in our individual properties to move.

worried, yes, try to make plans for the future.
possible armed conflict, would I be scared, most likely, like the rest are,
there's so much I can't influence over, like what happens behind my eastern border.
