Not even what the filter is designed for, I guess a fools fool. The filter won't filter the sodium in urine also, the kitty crap.. um the filter won't filter viruses dudes. These guys are fxxking nuts a total misuse of a product.

FYI, Life Straw isn't the best nor the worst though it isn't one I would take with me reason, it only filters to .2 microns the Sawyer Mini filters to .1 micron

Lol, I'd be lying if I said I didn't enjoy this.

No experience UV, I know the Military uses them but only as part of an mechanical filtration system. These UV water filters still doesn't filter the water such as removing particles and clearing the water without a mechanical filter and won't help with the taste (if that a concern)

I'm on the fence with these type of filters, I'm not a fan of packing batteries for water filters. I'm partial to the Sawyer Mini and have a great deal of trust in it within reason, for the money it is one of the better one's out their though not the best of the best, it fits my needs.

My water filtration system, boil, use iodine or the mini filter

Yea all reviews on Sawyer I've seen have been positive. Thanks.

I keep a couple Sawyer's packed in my everyday carry bag. I've only tried it once just to see how it works.

Yea I should probably order a couple. I have a dozen or so LifeStraws but after what Maverick said about em I might have to switch things up. I have never tested em out myself.

I was kinda counting on Google if it ever came to that. :D

#sarcasm

I just ordered a couple Sawyer filters...for peace of mind. Thanks for recommendation Maverick.

So Maverick are all my Life Straws worthless? In what types of water sources do you feel they would be okay to use?

Thanks.

NO, the life straws aren't worthless. I would use them in flowing streams just not stagnate ponds, like with all my filters I carry coffee filters with rubber bands, use coffee filters as a pre-filter to the water filter ;) Even with the Sawyer if I have reservations and able to, I will boil the water first before using the water filter.

Most of the issues up around my location is going to be with beaver fever (giardiasis) life straw protects against it, giardiasis would be a common problem in North America and the life straw would be just fine.

I love the sawyer mini's, I keep a couple in my pack. One problem with the included water bags - they are too stiff. It is extremely difficult to sink them in water, then fill them. If you try to "inflate" them then dip them, they crush back down in the water and don't fill. You can inflate them, then kinda skim them, but it is still finicky. I just carry two empty regular plastic water bottles, they work much better for me.

I gave away my life straw. Probably nothing wrong with it, but too big, and not great for filtering tannins and dark water before boiling to make coffee. Coffee is life.

Here, a water related horror story from my well spent youth.

I was walking up a very beautiful spring fed creek. Pure white limestone sand bottom, deep in a flat bottomed ravine along the river. The ravine opens out, and along the creek was an old cabin foundation, no idea how old but I would find mother of pearl buttons, and old silver spoons. Very neat.

The spring fed up out of the base of a limestone bluff, and someone in the past had dug it out, and made almost a well, like a 2 foot tall rock wall around it.

So I'm walking up the creek, just drinking water from my cupped hands. Barefoot, it's all good, I was maybe 10 years old. I get up to the well, and look in... and there are two furless, swollen dead raccoons in it! GROSS!!! I didn't puke, but I had a lot of saliva going on, and somehow my mouth instantly felt greasy hahaha. I never drank the water there again. Ever.

There are other water bags that fit the Sawyer other than the Sawyer brand such as the Evernew and Platypus though the Evernew is perhaps the best.
